Many working families qualify

July 2, 2015
Many working families qualify for the WIC (Women, Infants and Children) program. The WIC program provides healthy food, nutrition information, breastfeeding support and referral services. You may be eligible if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or have children under the age of 5*.

The average WIC food package value is $50 per person per month. A mom who exclusively breastfeeds her infant for 12 months will receive $100 each month of WIC benefits and her infant will receive $70 of WIC benefits for six months.

While appointments are encouraged, WIC of Beaver Falls provides walk-in days every Friday afternoon from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. with no appointment necessary.

The WIC Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) provides checks to eligible WIC participants to buy locally-grown fresh fruits and vegetables. Eligible participants will receive a total of $20 to purchase Pennsylvania-grown fruits and vegetables. Farmers’ Market checks can be used between June 1, 2015 and November 30, 2015.

Look for the FMNP sign to identify the farmers’ markets/stands that accept WIC Farmers’ Market checks.
