Summer of Baseball Activities Hit a Home Run for Science

PLAY BALL AT CARNEGIE SCIENCE CENTER’S GRAND SLAM SUMMER

Carnegie Science Center is partnering with Pirates Charities to provide a summer's worth of baseball-themed fun for sports and science fans. Visitors will be able to take advantage of these special events and activities with general admission to the Science Center.

·         Grand Slam Science: See the live demonstration theater show Grand Slam Science on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Explore the science of the bat's sweet spot, and discover the physics of the perfect pitch.

·         Highmark SportsWorks®: Visitors will learn about the science of baseball with daily demonstrations. In addition to practicing pitches,NEW this summer: Guests can check the speed and power of their swing in a brand-new batting cage exhibit (opens July 21).

 ·         Youth Baseball and Softball Days: On July 22 and Aug. 5, kids who wear a youth baseball or softball league jersey enjoy free general admission to the Science Center. The Pirate Parrot will also make a special appearance on those dates. 

·         Grand Slam! FREE Fab Lab Workshop: On Fridays from June 24 - Aug. 5, Pirates fans can show their support for the home team by making a Pirates-themed wooden door decoration. During this workshop, participants will learn how to use Fab Lab Carnegie Science Center’s laser cutter. The workshop is open to ages 8 and up. Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult who also registers for the workshop. Participants must register in advance online at CarnegieScienceCenter.org or by phone (412-237-3400, then press 7). The workshops are FREE thanks to Pirates Charities, but space is limited.
