The Opportunist
First of all, Happy Valentine's Day! I hope that you have a wonderful day and enjoy hugs and kisses from your kids!
This past weekend, my family had planned to go to St. John's Winter Carnival--then my daughter caught a stomach bug and that ended any plans for fun. So my son announced that he would set up a carnival in this room. Nice idea, right? His sister was excited, and I patted myself on the back for raising such a thoughful child.
So, he sets up his carnival and takes out all of his games. I look over in the corner and see some of his toys. He tells us that those toys are prizes that we can win. His sister is even more excited. There's nothing she wants more than her brother's toys, for some reason.
Then I notice the sign on his door. It has a whole list of items, like "Connect Four--20 cents" and "I Spy--50 cents." He explained that in order to play the games and win tickets, that we have to pay him first. My husband said, "You want us to PAY you in order to win tickets so that we can take the toys out of your room that you no longer want?" And we realized that one of those toys actually belonged to his sister. So he also wanted her to use her own money to basically buy back her own toys. None of this phased my daughter. She happily ran to her room, got her money out, and announced that she was ready to play.
Do you remember one of those Bill Cosby skits when he talks about each child's personality and gives them a name based on that? Well, my son is The Opportunist. I fear what he'll come up with next! Someone please tell me that your kids do the same things!

Melissa, it's good to hear I don't have the only child like that! He could figure out a way to sell sunshine to people in Florida.
