Henry Mancini Arts Academy presents its Summer 2013 Workshops!

June Workshops

Intro to Digital Photography & Photoshop
Fee: $125
June 24-28
Ages 11-14 | Monday - Friday | 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon
Learn the operation of the digital still camera. In-class projects will provide an opportunity to improve composition and technical skills through guided practice. Bring your own digital camera. Complete the workshop by learning the basic tools in Photoshop to edit and enhance your photographs.

“Plein Air Painting” with Pastels
Fee: $75
June 24-26
Ages 13 & up | Monday - Wednesday | 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon
Capture soft summer colors in a ‘plein air’ workshop. This course will focus on translating nature into a series of shapes and forms using versatile pastels for any level of student. Each morning, students will start with a short demonstration and then work individually with the instructor to develop technical skills and personal style.

Chinese Brush Painting
Fee: $145
June 24-28
Ages 15 & up | Monday - Friday | 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon
Ages 11-14 | Monday - Friday | 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Chinese Brush painting captures the essence and spirit of a subject. From four brush strokes (known as the Four Gentlemen) paintings are quickly created and finalized with a red seal. Meaningful art works on rice paper are accomplished by any level of student along with an understanding of nature and the symbolism associated with this ancient art form.
 
Stunt School
Fee: $200
June 24-28
Ages 13 & up | Monday - Friday | 9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Includes Combat for the Camera, Martial Arts,  Tumbling, Sword Fighting
Note: All techniques taught in this course are done with the highest of safety standards. The instructor is a certified utility stuntman from the United Stuntman’s Association Stunt
School, a professional fight director for nearly 250 theatrical productions, and eight feature films to his credit.

July 15-19 | Ballet, Modern, Improvisation, Composition, Repertory
July 22-26 | Ballet, Theatre Jazz, Audition Techniques, Basic Vocal Techniques/Repertory
Each week-long Dance Workshop promises a unique and challenging experience that will help dancers grow technically, artistically and personally. In a safe and encouraging environment, dancers will explore and develop their skills in a daily Ballet class, followed by weekly offerings in other genres.

Musical Theatre for Kids
Fee: $125
July 8-12
Ages 6-9 | Monday - Friday | 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon
Students will develop their talents and learn basic techniques and skills in classes dedicated to dance, acting and voice. They will also participate in a rehearsal/
performance class, where they learn to use their techniques to rehearse musical theatre numbers. Musical Theatre for Kids will conclude with an informal
presentation of staged musical theatre pieces from “The Wizard of Oz” in the Center’s Studio Theater.

Musical Theatre for Preteens

July 15-19 and 22-26
Ages 10-12 | Monday - Friday | 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon
Students will develop their talents and learn basic techniques and skills, in classes dedicated to dance, acting and voice. They will also participate in a rehearsal/performance class, where they learn to apply their techniques to rehearse and stage musical theatre numbers. Each week is a separate program--student can enroll for both weeks or for just one of the weeks.

This year’s teen program is a step above traditional musical theatre summer camps. Students learn and advance their skills in technique-based classes in dance, acting and voice. Students will also take a rehearsal/performance class to hone rehearsal techniques and to apply what they have been learning in class.

The summer break is a perfect time for students to concentrate on improving their musical skills. Whether the aspiring musician is just becoming familiar with their chosen instrument or is seeking to get a head start on audition preparation, these lessons are for students of all ages and skill levels.

Afternoon Art Camp

Afternoon Art Camp will include interesting and fun projects for students at any level. Learn simple drawing techniques by using letters and shapes to illustrate your own characters and creating a storyboard. Recycle paper, cardboard, fabric, paint and add “all kinds of other stuff” to create a theme based abstract work of art.
