Cheer On Reading with Cheeriosâ„¢

April 24, 2014

Macaroni Kid is thrilled to partner with Cheerios and its 2014 Cheer on Reading initiative. As part of its ongoing commitment to nurturing the “whole child” and connecting families to one another by fostering a shared love of reading, Cheerios™ cereal will once again provide more than 8 million children’s books free inside Cheerios boxes through its Cheer On Reading program. Select Macaroni Kid Publisher Moms across the country will be holding book club themed parties to help bring Cheerios messaging to life in their local communities.

This year marks the 12th year Cheerios has supported literacy efforts through programs like Cheer On Reading and Spoonfuls of Stories. The program helps parents provide their children with a healthy, nutritional and educational foundation for a bright future.

Over the past twelve years, Cheerios has distributed more than 78 million children’s books inside boxes, and donated $4.4 million to the national literacy nonprofit First Book, a non-profit that provides access to new books for children in need.

The 2014 in-pack storybooks are for children ages 2 to 8 years-old, and all books have been specially printed in both English and Spanish. This year’s book offerings from Cheerios – all by Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing – are: That’s What I’d Do (Jewel), Bear Says Thanks (Karma Wilson), 1-2-3 Peas (Keith Baker), Chicks Run Wild (Sudipta Bardhan-Quallen), Please, Baby Please (Spike Lee & Tonya Lewis Lee), and returning favorite Jump! (Scott M. Fischer)

For the second year, Cheerios will also feature a chapter book for older readers inside specially-marked boxes of Honey Nut Cheerios™ cereal. This year’s book, Phineas L. MacGuire Gets Cooking, was written for exclusive release in Cheerios boxes by Frances O'Roark Dowell, author of the Phineas series.

You can find the specially marked boxes of Cheerios on grocery store shelves nationwide in April and May. Specially-marked Cheerios boxes will have a window in the front showing what book is inside – so parents and their kids can easily collect them all.
