Beaver United Methodist Preschool

Registering for Fall Now!

August 28, 2014
The Beaver United Methodist Preschool (BUMP) is a ministry of the Beaver United Methodist Church. The school's purpose is to provide daily activities in a loving, Christian environment that will enrich and develop children socially, emotionally, spiritually, intellectually, and physically.

What Does BUMP Offer Your Children?
  • They believe that pre-school years provide a strong foundation in these areas, upon which a love of learning is built.
  • They hope to challenge your child, but never frustrate him/her. They will encourage your child to share with others, develop self-control, use his/her imagination, explore, discover and gain self-confidence.
  • They keep the curriculum updated to meet the current standards of the local school districts, but they also continue to honor many of the traditions that B.U.M.P. is known for such as the annual art show, Mother's Day tea, our Christmas program, and Beach Day.
Why is BUMP Special?

Progress Reports
Each child develops at his/her own rate. This is what makes each child a unique and special individual. Progress reports are not a measure of ability or intelligence. They are merely an assessment of where your child is at this particular time in his/her development. Parents will receive a “mini” progress report in November and more detailed progress reports in January and May. Children will be evaluated on social skills, gross and fine motor skills, “work” habits, listening skills, self-help skills and cognitive development. Conferences are only scheduled at the request of individual parents and/or the teachers.

Parent Involvement
There are many opportunities for you to be involved in your child’s school activities. We need parents to help with field trips, parties and some special events. As the school year progresses there will be a parent sign-up for classroom volunteers to help with small group crafts, projects or papers. Any parents wishing to share about a career, special talent, hobby or interest with students is most welcome!

Newsletters
A monthly newsletter will be sent home on the first class day of each month which gives you an overview of the month ahead; including show and tell dates and themes, color days, party information, book order dates, field trips, upcoming projects and units of study, dates school will be closed for holidays, etc.

Birthdays
Children love to celebrate their birthdays! They are very proud of growing up and rightly so! We enjoy recognizing each child on his/her special day. Each month, children with birthdays in that month will be assigned the snack day closest to their birthday. You may change this date if desired. You may bring in cupcakes, cookies, cake, ice cream, popsicles or any other favorite snack. The birthday child gets to sit in a “Birthday Chair” for all activities, as well has have other special privileges and surprises.

Curriculum
The pre-school years are wonderful years of imagination, exploration and discovery, when milestones in growth and development occur. Therefore, the children will be exposed to many different learning experiences to enrich and enhance their development, and to fortify the foundation on which their formal education is built.

Teacher-directed and child-centered activities to develop kindergarten readiness skills are a central focus of our program, including recognition and conception of numbers and letters, fine and gross motor skill development, mathematical concepts, and exposure to different types of literature. In addition, the children will explore a variety of learning themes relating the world around them to their unique place in it. Play centers encourage children to be creative, use their imaginations, and develop social skills. Learning centers provide opportunities to do number and letter activities, printing practice, patterning, sequencing, etc. We do not use one specific curriculum, but rather a combination of several excellent pre-school curricula.
