Disney On Ice presents Princesses & Heroes

March 4-8, 2015 to see Royal Sisters, Anna and Elsa from Disneyโ€™s Frozen Coming to Pittsburgh

March 5, 2015
Last night, I took my daughter to see Disney On Ice presents Princesses & Heroes, Presented by Stonyfield YoKids Organic Yogurt, which is at the CONSOL Energy Center until Sunday, March 8.

This two-hour program was filled with amazing performances! It’s more than an ice show—it’s really a musical extravaganza that weaves Disney tales together in a way that’s both new and familiar. Kids love the sets, the action, the costumes, and the songs.

This year’s show was a mixture of popular Disney shows such as Aladdin, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Beauty and The Beast, Tangled, and the Little Mermaid. Of course, we got to hear songs such as “Under the Sea,” “Heigh-Ho,” and “Once Upon A Dream.” (Since the cast is busy ice skating, dancing, and performing lifts and tricks, the sound is supplied by a recording that’s taken right from each Disney movie.)

After intermission, there’s more fun from Princess and the Frog, Sleeping Beauty, and Cinderella. Then, the remainder of the time is a shortened version of everyone’s favorite—Frozen! As soon as they started this section of the show, the kids yelled in happiness. This mini-Frozen performance includes Queen Elsa, Princess Ana, Kristoff, and of course, Olaf, as they show you what happens when Anna tries to find Elsa in a new, snowy world so that she can return Arrendale back to normal. Along the way, you get to hear “For the First Time in Forever,” “In Summer,” and “Let it Go.” Yes, everyone sings along! How can you not?

The sets, props, and costumes are beautiful! A large castle-like set piece serves as the main backdrop, and it changes for each different show. We loved seeing Cinderella’s carriage, the silverware costumes for Beauty and the Beast, and the lighting that changes the Consol to an underwater world.

Of course, what makes this show different is that it’s all performed on ice. Each member of the cast not only has a part to play, but they glide around on the ice, performing different tricks, including lifts and jumps.

If you plan on going, many of the kids are wearing Disney costumes, especially Elsa. Lots of little boys were wearing superhero capes. Take the whole family and enjoy a great show!
