- First, I wanted a system that I can use to check in on my son, since he’ll be starting middle school in the fall and will be getting home much earlier than he did before.
- Second, I wanted a security system with video. The older the kids get, the more we’re out of the house. I’m often running to work appointments or going to my kids’ events, so we need to be able to keep an eye on the house.
- Third, I had to be able to access and adjust the features of the system using my phone or tablet. I use my phone for just about everything, so I wanted an easy way to monitor the house when I wasn't there.
Easy to Set Up
It took me just minutes to set up (maybe three minutes, then three more minutes to sync the app, it was that easy) and place in the family room. I downloaded the Piper app on my phone and iPad and then was ready to set the parameters for both the safety and security features, which includes motion and sound monitoring and live video feed. I can check it all right from my phone. Perfect.
See how small it is? It comes in white or black. I named it “Pipette.”
Great Features That Are Mobile-Adjustable
Piper nv has these easy-to-use features:
- It will show you clear video feed. I can look at the high-def video of my family room (so high def that I can see and hear what’s on the TV in that room), adjust the level of the light on the video, and then just touch my phone’s screen to pan and zoom. When my son comes home from school, I'll see it. There’s also an intercom system that you can use to talk to someone in the room whether you're home or away. And it’s so much easier for me to use than my usual method of communication (yelling).
- It monitors your home’s vitals. The Vitals screen lets you see what the temperature is inside your home (outside, too) plus the humidity. I really like the humidity feature since my family has a lot of allergy problems, and it helps me figure out just how much the a/c may need to be on. The Vitals screen also tells you if there’s been any motion or loud noises in your house. Of course, if you and the kids are home, there will probably be loud noises! But if no one’s home (or maybe just your pets are home), you can monitor the noise level and see if something is wrong. There’s even a panic button that you can activate from your phone. However, it’s LOUD and should only be used for emergencies because, did I mention, it’s LOUD?
- It can be automated to work with lights and appliances in your home. Piper nv has z-wave integration. Now this is a really cool feature. You can pair Piper with different home automation accessories that will make your life easier! I’m trying out the window/door sensor, which tells me when one is opened. You’ll be notified immediately on your mobile device if someone opens the door or cracks a window. That's very useful if you're on vacation. There’s a smart dimmer that allows you to dim or turn lights off or on using your phone. Piper keeps you secure and helps you save money too!
You can set rules that tell Piper what to look for while you're home or away, and when and how you should be notified.
If you're looking for an all-in-one security, safety, and home automation system, take a look at Piper nv. I love that it brings me peace of mind.
